Corporate Video Editing: A Review and Delivery Checklist for Marketing Teams

A corporate video is ready when it communicates the right message accurately and works in the places where you will use it. A polished transition cannot fix an unclear story, an outdated product claim or a missing caption. This checklist helps marketing teams review corporate video editing without sending conflicting rounds of feedback.

Agree on the purpose before the first edit

Write down the audience, the main message and the intended action. A recruitment film should help candidates understand the workplace. A product overview should explain the offer. An internal training video needs a clear sequence of instructions. These goals lead to different editing decisions.

Provide the editor with the approved script, interview notes and any statements that must be included. Mark outdated slides or footage that should not appear. If the same footage will produce several videos, identify the purpose of each version.

Review the story before the finishing details

Use the first review to assess structure: does the opening establish a reason to watch, does each section support the message, and is the ending clear? Check that interview excerpts keep the speaker’s intended meaning. Remove repetition and ask whether a viewer unfamiliar with the company can follow the terminology.

Distinguish temporary elements from mistakes. An early cut may include placeholder music or unfinished graphics. Agree on what the editor wants reviewed at each stage so stakeholders do not spend time discussing material that will change.

Check brand and factual accuracy

  • Confirm company names, job titles, product names and contact details.
  • Check spelling and punctuation in titles, lower thirds and captions.
  • Verify numerical claims, dates and any text shown in charts.
  • Use approved logos, colours and fonts.
  • Confirm that screenshots and product footage show the correct version.
  • Check that footage, music and other supplied assets are cleared for the intended use.

Ask the person responsible for each claim to approve it. Keep this review separate from personal preferences about transitions or music. A clear approval record helps prevent an old version being released accidentally.

Listen as carefully as you watch

Review on headphones and an ordinary speaker. Speech should be understandable, music should support it, and cuts between speakers should not cause distracting changes in volume. Listen for abrupt endings, background noises and places where the words do not match the picture.

Read captions while watching the video. Check names, technical terms, timing and line breaks. If you need both a clean version and one with captions built into the image, include both in the delivery brief. Separate subtitle files may also be required by your publishing workflow.

Send one consolidated feedback list

Nominate one reviewer to collect comments. Use the version name, a timecode and a specific instruction for each change. “At 00:24, replace the old product name with the approved name” is clearer than “fix the branding.” Explain the problem when you are unsure of the solution.

Resolve conflicting feedback internally before sending it to the editor. Separate necessary corrections from new requests, such as an additional interview or a different animation style. New material can change the scope and schedule, so discuss it before the next edit begins.

Confirm the delivery package

List the versions you need: the main film, shorter cutdowns, horizontal or vertical layouts, language versions and caption options. Reframing a horizontal interview for a vertical screen may require deliberate changes to text and composition rather than a simple crop.

Agree on file format, resolution, naming and delivery method. Ask whether editable project files, graphics files and licensed assets are included; do not assume that a final exported video includes them. Confirm how long source files will be retained and who is responsible for keeping the final archive.
